Congratulations are in order for UGA Griffin student, Darian Adams, for being named the recipient of the Marie Fort Garden Club Scholarship for 2021. The local club presents the $1,000 scholarship annually to a UGA Griffin undergraduate student in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES). Adams was awarded the scholarship in October at a club meeting.

“Thank you so much,” said Adams to the club. “This scholarship will help me reach my career goals by helping fund my tuition and books. Getting a degree is my top priority and this scholarship will help tremendously.”

A Griffin, Georgia native, Adams began her tenure at UGA Griffin in the Fall of 2020 and is pursuing a major in Agribusiness with plans to graduate in May 2022. She stated she chose the field of agribusiness because she felt it would open many opportunities for careers in the world of agriculture. Currently, she is interested in becoming a digital marketing coordinator and would love to work for The Dairy Alliance, a non-profit in Atlanta which works with dairy farmers to promote dairy foods and knowledge about the dairy industry.

Dr. Chrystal McDowell, Assistant Director of Student Affairs for UGA Griffin, shared her excitement for Adams being selected as this year’s recipient.

“Dairan is a hard-working student who is not only dedicated to her studies, but also to the campus community as she serves as a member UGA Griffin Ambassadors,” said McDowell. “We are so excited to have her selected as the Marie Fort Garden Club scholarship recipient.”

McDowell went on the thank the club for their continued support of UGA Griffin and its’ students.

“The Marie Fort Garden Club has been a constant supporter of our students at UGA Griffin,” said McDowell. “Under the leadership of Diane Lamb, the club has increased the amount of the scholarship award, which directly supports students. W and out students are appreciative of this continued and great support, to help our students reach their educational and career goals.”
